Mid Semester Break

Its finally semester break!! A time where you can danced merrily after being 'caged' for some time, a time to gasp  some fresh air while being pushed underneath the 'water' all the while. I smell freedom! And though its just a week's getaway, I appreciated it a lot.

Now, a short review about the few places we went.

Food Gallery @ Penang Times Square

Located on the 1st floor of Penang Times Square. One can hardly miss it.

There are a huge variety of international cuisines to be chosen from. There are Taiwanese, Chinese, Indonesian, German, Italian etc. I can hardly name them all. One can opt to sit in the indoor or outdoor section depending on own preference.

From the wide range of food, its funny how we both ended up with Korean cuisine. However, nothing to shout about, a lot of improvement needed.

My Mango Pamelo Sago Ice. Nothing as shown in the pictured menu. The mango cubes are not sweet and already starting to turn brownish. I can hardly taste the mango cream, just syrup.

Bobok's Honeydew Pudding with toppings. I didn't tried this but its definitely not worth the price.

New World Park @ Swatow Lane

Since its renovation, New World Park had improved to a place accommodated with gourmet restaurants, boutiques as well as a hawker center. Most hawker stalls which was located outside the site were shifted into this well ventilated hawker centre, avoiding the sun and rain with better hygiene.

We had Duck Mee Suah. Quite tasty I must say.

The well known ABC/ice-kacang here. There were papayas, mangoes and bananas in it. Refreshing!

Zhong Nan Kopitiam @ Jalan Air Putih

This place is famous for its Kopi O and braised items. However the seller tends to be impatient and rude when there are a lot of orders.

We had a little of everything. The braised chicken, pork, duck, char siew, sausage with rice. An extra order of salted vegetable.

888 Hokkien Mee @ Lebuh Presgrave

This very famous stall of hokkien mee is located just 2-3 streets away from 1st Avenue, which is about a 10 mins walk. This same street is where the Kwong Wah newspaper factory stand.

There are 3 ways of eating this noodles. First is without the 'loh' which is the thick black gravy, which is the hokkien mee(福建面); second way is with the 'loh', which is called hokkien loh; and the third way is without the soup just the 'loh', what we known as loh mee(卤面). One can choose to add pork belly(烧肉), pork ribs(排骨), pork trotter(猪脚), intestines, fish balls or egg at additional prices.

Chattime @ 1st Avenue

We had our first sip of Chattime which everyone raved about. I must say, now I understand the long queue. It has a variety of choices to choose from and you can personalise it by deciding on the level of sweetness, amount of ice and your own toppings.

We had Mango Green Tea with Aloe Vera. What a combination! I love mango and bobok loves green tea. I never knew they both can go so well together. Hehe

Went for a movie after that. You are the Apple of My Eyes '那些年,我们一起追的女孩'. This I cannot comprehend. Maybe I had went through high school years in a girls' school.

Little Cottage Cafe @ Burmah Road

I like the romantic inner design which is kinda English. Haha

We had the 5-course set dinner that is inclusive of a butter roll, soup-of-the-day, main course, dessert and coffee/tea. We changed the drinks into ice lemon tea for no extra charges.

The butter roll was fluffy and warm. Too bad the butter was a cold block.

Mushroom soup with cream. Its not too salty and I like the chunks of mushroom in it where I can nibble. Hehe

Bobok's Lamb Shoulder and Chicken Combo (RM38.80)
'Deliciously grilled lamb shoulder and boneless thigh of chicken, served with black pepper sauce and fresh veggy'
I must say the portion is extremely huge! I just had some of the lamb and I am certainly not a mutton lover. The veggy were too soggy to Bobok's taste. I ended up eating all the soft carrots and broccoli.

My "New England" Battered Fish Fillet (RM29.90)
'Fried fish fillet in batter served with homemade tartar sauce and chips'
Even the fish fillet is huge and the batter is a little too thick to my likeness. And like what Bobok always says, McD serves the fries. Haha

Dessert was chocolate cake. I like it. Not overly dense yet chocolatey.

Bobok's decent smile after a satisfied meal.

Overall, the meal was nice and I love the ambience. Suitable for couples, families as well as friends gathering.

Baking @ Home

Since this is Bobok's first experience in baking, I must record this memorable moment. Hehe.

Mixing the flour and beating the batter on my childhood ABC table.

Our end product. It might not look good, but it tasted not bad. Plus this is homemade, definitely low fat and sugar and high in cocoa power. Hehe

Sin Ka Oon Cake House & Bakery @ Ayer Itam

This is one of the oldest bakery in Penang Island. Famed for its bakeries such as egg tarts, brownies, coconut tarts and breads.

Wing Yuen Bakery @ Ayer Itam

Among my top list of bakeries. This is specialised in biscuits and cookies. Brings back the little girl in me.

Just beside the roadside after the traffic light. Very hard to find a parking place though.

All sorts of bakeries leaving me drooling.

@ Home

Bobok had a new haircut. Gosh his side profile looks so much like Bosco(黄宗泽). If you happen to watch the new drama In Lives of Omission (潜行阻狙击) by TVB, thats how he looks like now with his new role as a gangster. Lol

Noodles cooked with love and care from me. Haha. Kah liew with meatballs and egg.

Leisure @ Penang Youth Park

Care for some childhood rides?

Famous Teochew Chendol @ Penang Road

This never-ceasing-crowd-of-customers stall by the roadside has finally got a shop a little further from the stall. This is the best chendol I had ever had. Worth standing on the roadside gulping down the whole bowl. That's why we forgot to take pictures of the chendol. Haha. (Duhh)

Wall of Fame

Laksa. Nothing to shout about

21, Lebuh Keng Kwee,
Off Penang Road, 10000 Penang (adjoining Joo Hooi Kopitiam)

And that's the end of this post.

So long Penang, so long holidays, so long freedom. Its time to be back to reality and kick some ass (my own).
